They fasted and prayed

Anne and Peter's wedding

Anne Wambui and Peter Njenga had two committees for their wedding. One was to plan for the wedding ceremony while the other, comprising of very few people was to pray and fast for the wedding and marriage. For sure, they faithfully did.

The wedding took place at Pan-African Christian University, Nairobi, for the church service and Safari Park Hotel for the reception.

The cost of the wedding was 1.8million with a guest-list of 600 people.

Eve Bridal: How did you two meet?

We met for the first time in August 2007 at a mutual friends’ wedding (they became our best couple). Anne and I were both part of the bridal party and it just happened that she was my partner.

It was love at first sight for me but for her I was just another man out to bother her and so she resisted all my advances with all her energy. It was not until a year later when I got that breakthrough.

EB: For how long did you date?

Close to two years and during that period, with God’s guidance, we were totally convinced that we were meant for each other. We decided to tie the knot.

EB: Challenges you faced when planning the wedding?

We really are thankful to God for we did not face any major challenge. However, sitting in the committee meetings sometimes up to past midnight was hectic. This was due to most members arriving late for the meetings. Following up on the service providers was also another challenge considering our demanding schedules.

Also, apart from our budget which kept going up as the wedding neared, I couldn’t also seem to get the kind of suits I wanted for my grooms men here in Nairobi until a friend came to my rescue and got them from Dubai a month to the wedding.

EB: What did you realise were the most important things when planning a wedding?

Plan ahead by booking both the service providers and venues in good time. We did most of our bookings six months prior to the wedding and had we not done that then, most probably we could have missed to secure both the church and reception venues. I remember the day we went to book the church venue, while we were still there, another couple walked in about 20 minutes after us to inquire and book the church venue for the same date and month as our wedding.

EB: Which part of the wedding do you feel is over-rated?

The reception because that’s where the biggest chunk of the budget goes to. Woe unto you if the food is not enough!

EB: Where did you buy your outfits? For how much?

Anne bought her gown from Gal Bridal at Enkarasha at Sh45,000. My suit together with the waistcoat, tie and shirt were from Delvis shop, Westlands, all at Sh25,000.

EB: Where did you go for honeymoon?

Initially, we had planned for Seychelles but since we had spent more than the anticipated budget, we settled for Zanzibar.
