Comedian and radio personality Jalang’o on Saturday advised those in the entertainment industry to get out of their comfort zones and find ways of making ends meet away from Nairobi.
Jalang’o urged creatives to leave Nairobi for other towns where entertainment spots are still open to ensure they do not go to bed hungry.
He further advised them to get the Covid-19 jab and apply for passes to be allowed to move around.
“Dear art industry if you fully depend on art or performance to eat please plan and leave Nairobi now! Go get the jab, apply for the pass and just go! 29th May is far and we are not sure if they will open...just go utakufa hapa Nairobi!! We have places opened and operating in Mombasa , Kisumu , Kisii, Kericho , malindi, wherever...Just plan and go! They need your talent!” he wrote.
Adding: “Book your events out of Nairobi!! Go!! I swear watu wanaumia! Even well established artists and Djs !! Watu nyumba zinafungwa, artists are hungry! Depression is checking in!! Go! Team up go get a one bedroom somewhere in Kisumu, book events in Homabay, kisii, migori, siaya..go create a new audience!! Go to Nyeri..book gigs in Karatina, Nanyuki, Meru...Go to Mombasa, mtwapa, malindi, Kilifi...just go!!”
He also warned the artistes against engaging in immoral activities saying: “Wapelekee talent sio ugonjwa!!”
Earlier this week, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i reiterated that the curfew will last until end of May despite calls by creatives to lift some of the restrictions.
The CS noted that the move was necessitated by the rise in Covid-19 infections in the zoned area (Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Nakuru and Kiambu) that will still have the 8pm to 4am curfew.
Through a Legal Notice (46), the CS stated that the 10pm to 4am curfew in the rest of the public will remain in effect until May 29, 2021.
