Comedian Njugush bags Digital Influencer of the Year award

Comedian Timothy Kimani, popularly known as Blessed Njugush, has been crowned Digital Influencer of the Year for 2020.

Fresh from being named among 100 most influential young Africans in 2020, the 29-year-old father of one trounced four other content creators; Kwadwo Sheldoh (Ghana), Lasizwe (South Africa), Linda Ikeji (Nigeria) and Edith Yoh (Cote d'Ivoire) for the prestigious award at a virtual ceremony held on Saturday, November 29.

“Africa Digital Influencer of the Year; a huge title thanks for your support. Thanks, Africa Digital Awards for your recognition. Influencing with a purpose. Asante Celestine Ndinda for being there throughout the journey,” read a section of Njugush’s post after the nod by Digital Foundation Africa in celebration of excellence, innovation and creativity.

The post by the former Real Househelps of Kawangware star announcing the win has since received over 30,000 likes and over one thousand comments from fans, including fellow celebrities, praising him for the achievement.

Kiss 100 presenter Jalang’o shared: "Good stuff bro." Gospel singer Kambua added: "Awesome!!" A third, MCA Tricky, commented: "Kasee we are proud of you, keep winning!" While Bien of celebrated boyband Sauti Sol said: “Congratulations G. You're an inspiration." So did Milly waJesus, Eddie Butita and Camy who posted, "Glory to God", “Congratulations”, and “Finally my votes counted somewhere. Congratulations, to many more”, respectively.

Weeks earlier, Instagram sensation Elsa Majimbo made Kenya proud after winning E! People’s Choice Awards in the African Social Star category. She had been nominated alongside Nigerian Dimma Umeh, Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson and South Africa's; Sho Madjozi, Thuso Mbedu, Wian, Karl Kugelmann, and Zozi Tunzi.

“I literally could not have done it without all of your amazing support. This year has been a whirlwind of discomfort and confusion for everybody, but for me, it's also brought with it a great lesson, that sometimes even the greatest obstacles in our path can be opportunities in disguise," wrote the 19-year-old comic.
