Abolish studies on the days of worshipping

News

Chapter four of the constitution of The Republic of Kenya (2010) articulates human rights and freedom under the bill of rights. In article 32(2),”Every person has the right, either individually or in community with others, in public or in private, to manifest any religion or belief through worship, practice, teaching or observance of a day of worship.”

In reference to the above clause, it is evidential that the right of worship in most of learning institutions in Kenya is violated thus schooling on the worshipping days is normal to most people. For both private and public schools in Kenya, to operate on these days has become normal. On the same note, parents pay for these studies termed as ‘Remedial’. This act violates the constitution of Kenya and denies learners the right to worship and honor their worshiping days. This is done in the name of putting extra efforts to better the results. Well, this might be true but on the other hand, what kind of generation is being brought up?

This act is distancing learners from God in all ways as they grow up with lesser knowledge on matters of religion and how to interact with their fellows outside the academic corridors. It is quite questionable on how children are being brought up with no know how on matters relating to Godliness. These are the same people who end up being alcohol addicts, drug and substance users, morally decayed, and disrespectful in society among other vices.

It is therefore better for us to be closer to God as possible, as there are six days given to us to perform all our duties but reserve the seventh day for worshipping God. The management of schools across the country should therefore abolish studies on the days of worshipping to allow learners from all religions to practice this, or resolve to other alternatives and let the days of worship to be fully for adoring the Lord and let the learners grow spiritually, interact with religious leaders who can shape their ways of life.
