Teachers’ salary negotiations still ongoing, says TSC boss Gabriel Lengoiboni

Kenya: As a row between the Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Teachers Service Commission on the teachers salaries and allowances increments continues, the TSC Secretary General Gabriel Lengoiboni has said that talks between TSC and KNUT are still ongoing.

Lengoiboni added that the talks between the two bodies have not yet ended as an agreement to resolve the standoff has not been reached.

Lengoiboni also said that the country is facing a major nationwide teacher shortage with the deficit currently standing at over 85,000 teachers.

He urged teachers all over the country to boost their efforts in uplifting the education standards due to the said prevailing situation as the government works on ways to find a solution to the shortage.

Lengoiboni was speaking at the Maralal day mixed secondary in Samburu County where he presided over a function to mark the education day with parents, teachers and students at the school.
