Sh400m boost for Early Childhood Development and Education in schools

Busia, Kenya: Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD) teachers in Busia County have a reason to smile after the county government allocated Sh400 million towards their employment and building of classes.

Busia Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa said the funds would facilitate construction of ECD classes in every primary school and employment of at least one teacher in every school.

This seeks to end perennial problems facing early childhood education since independence.

ECD teachers especially in public schools have had extremely low wages.

Speaking at a funeral of the late Erasto Mulamba at Busiada in Butula constituency, Wangalwa said the county government is committed towards establishing a strong foundation for education. “We have set aside Sh400 million for ECD,” he said.
