Speaker Kingi to Uhuru: Stop inciting Kenyan youth against government

[Boniface Okendo, Standard] Senate speaker Amason Kingi on Friday criticised a section of politicians for spreading "inciteful politics" to Kenyan youth. Speaking in Makindu township, Makueni, during a grand women empowerment fundraising event, Kingi said there were those who failed to build a conducive environment for the Kenya youths. "There are those who were leaders in the past years. Others were even presidents for 10 years, but they did nothing for the Kenyan youth; now they pretend to have gotten some knowledge on issues affecting the same youths. We want to tell those who were presidents and failed to leave our president, William Ruto, alone to assist the youths and the women. Please let the president roll out his good plans now," Kingi said Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta during a keynote address at the second annual Guild Leaders' summit at Makerere university, Kampala, Uganda, last month asked youth to take a lead as freedom fighters. However, Kenyatta in an activism tone since the Gen Z uprising had for many times asked the young people to fight on for their future encouraging them not to give up in their dreams. The Senate speaker defended the William Ruto administration, saying they took a government with empty coffers, but they have been able to stabilise the dollar against the Kenyan shilling, reduce prices of basic commodities, and unite Kenyans. The funds drive raised Sh7.5 million for women's groups in Kibwezi West constituency. It was attended by President William Ruto's aide, Faruk Kibet, host MP Mwengi Mutuse, Vincent Musyoka (Mwala MP), John Bwire (Taveta), Fabian Kyule (MP Kangundo), Innocent Mugabe (MP Likuyani), nominated senator Tabitha Mutinda, Lilian Siyoi (Woman Rep-Trans-Nzoia), among others. Leader condemned the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his new political outfit, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) saying it's a tribal party. They said the former DP is far from shedding off a tribal label he has had for a long time, something that had even formed grounds for his 2024 removal from office. "Those who have formed tribal political parties without the face of this country, we know them. They are hiding behind a community after they were recently chased away," Said Mr. Kibet. The Kenya Kwanza brigade ridiculed Gachagua while hailing the area MP Mutuse for taking down a "bull" that was being feared by all: "We had a dangerous bull. The bull was feared by all. There came a young man, determined, took down this bull, and at last it was slaughtered," said Kingi. While wooing the Kamba vote, the Ruto's aide said there were ill political plans by the former DP against the wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. "Mr. Gachagua has a political plot against Mr. Musyoka ahead of 2027. Soon, he will be asking him to bring his numbers to the table before any negotiations," he added The host MP Mwengi Mutuse defended the President's development scorecard in Ukambani days after the president postponed his three-day development tour of Ukambani. "Most of our markets have been put under lighting programs, with several towns receiving facelifts through modern markets. In Makindu, the government will be building 600 units under the affordable housing program," Mutuse said MP Fabian Muli, Kangundo, in a scathing attack to Fred Matiang'I faulted his intentions to vie for presidency saying he was unfit for the seat. "Gachagua earlier accused Matiang'i of frustrating him when he was a cabinet secretary, but we have seen the same former DP trying to align with his former oppressor. I want Riggy G to ask Matiang'i why he failed to respect courts when he was a Cabinet Secretary, so what becomes of him when he becomes a president?" said MP Muli.
