There was joy at the Makueni Remand Women prison on Monday during the launch of a programme meant to equip the inmates with skills.

The programme organised and funded by a Kajiadio Christian based group (Ignite Revival Ministry) will provide skills in hairdressing and beauty to the inmates. According to the founder, Mary Ann Kariuki, inmates will be issued with certificates at the end of the course.

"We are here to empower these women with skills that will help them get jobs when they leave here," said Kariuki.
