Makueni mentally challenged man kills mother, sister in dawn attack

Police in Kibwezi sub-county, Makueni County, have launched a manhunt for a mentally-challenged man who killed his 75-year-old mother and his 35-year-old sister on Sunday morning around 4 am.

The tragedy  happened at their home at Metava village, Thange in Makueni County.

Muoki Nzavi, 40, killed his mother Esther Nzavi and Wavinya Nzavi by stabbing them several times.  The mother died instantly while his sister succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital.

According to Thange Assistant Chief Nicholas Mwonga, the man attacked the two while they were deep asleep, unaware the killer had accessed the room. Mr Mwonga says there was no sign of forced entry.

“When we visited we found the doors were still intact in good condition, not broken into, raising questions on how the man entered the house. But I think the mother might have opened the door for him, who can deny entry to own son?,” said Mwonga

According to the Assistant Chief, neighbours came to the rescue of the two when they heard loud cries of people asking for help but the suspect had already fled the scene.

The suspect left a long knife at the crime scene while the two were lying in a pool of blood in two different rooms.

“Neighbors say that they heard the two shout for help but when they rushed to the scene the man had already finished executing his mission and fled to unknown hideouts,” he added

The region borders Chyullu Hills National Park where the man is thought to have fled to.

Reports have it that Muoka has been arrested on several occasions for assaulting the two. Still, when the woman and her daughter were invited to appear and testify in court, they refused.

“This didn’t just happen, they have been assaulted before but when the man gets arrested the two fail to appear in court hence stamping his release by courts for lack of evidence,” The Assistant Chief said

Authorities hope that the mentally challenged man will still come back home hence his arrest is inevitable as they did before on other crimes.

Police have moved the bodies to Makindu sub-county hospital mortuary.
