Police officers on Saturday rescued an abducted man from a forest near Kiutune area in Igembe North, Meru County.

Three suspects were arrested during the joint operation of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and police officers after the family reported the incident at a local police station on June 19.

“Following a missing person report that had been made at Kangeta Police Station in Meru County on June 19, 2020, a team of detectives working jointly with police officers mounted an intelligence-led operation within Kiutune area of Igembe Central Sub-County,” said DCI on Twitter.

Patrick Kimathi, Joseph Karithi and Daniel Muroki are alleged to have abducted the victim and demanded a ransom of Sh150,000 from his family.

The suspects led officers to a nearby thicket after being traced where the victim was rescued after 14 days.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects all aged below 30 led the officers to a nearby thicket where the victim was rescued after 14 days of abduction,” said the detectives.

The victim was taken for medical check and suspects are in lawful custody as several items that were recovered from the scene were kept as exhibits.
