Machakos, Kenya:The much awaited reconciliation meeting between Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Senator Johnson Muthama failed to take off as planned.

The convener, Bishop Martin Kivuva of Machakos Catholic Diocese, confirmed the meeting scheduled to be held at his residence on Monday was pushed to a later date due to what he termed unavoidable circumstances.

“The two leaders including my co-convener, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka were engaged in matters that were too important to abandon,” said Bishop Kivuva.

The bishop who spoke to journalists at his house on Monday, said the parties were in agreement the meeting be rescheduled.

“As the convener, I agreed with the request of the players that there were too many issues that could not allow them to attend and therefore accepted we postpone it,” said Kivuva.

The Standard learned the governor was unable to honor the appointment following the death of a nominated Member of the County Assembly, Samson Kimanzi, through a road accident at the weekend. The former VP is said to be in Kisii for campaigns.

An earlier meeting to reconcile the two leaders who have been at war since their election, planned for the Monday meeting because Dr Mutua did not attend it.

He sent apologies through Bishop Kivuva and Kalonzo saying he was busy organising the Cecafa senior challenge cup.
