[Benjamin Sakwa, Standard] Former handball champions Moi Girls Kamusinga are through to the finals of the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) in Kakamega. The 2016 winners on Wednesday dismissed Uganda's Kawanda Secondary School 19-15 to inch closer to retaining the title that has eluded them for the past six years. However, Kenya's hopes of having an all-Kenyan final clashed after national finalists St Joseph's Girls High School Kitale (JOGA) narrowly lost their last four encounter 20-23 to another Ugandan side, Mbogo High School. Kamusinga will tomorrow battle it out with perennial rivals Mbogo High in the final, while JOGA will be out to secure a podium finish when they take on Kawanda. Kamusinga coach Godfrey Simiyu said that they just have to go and get the job done now that they are closer to recapturing their title. "Getting here is a result of everyday effort, and my girls have committed to not rest until the final whistle. They have worked very hard because competition has been very stiff from the preliminaries, and now that we are in the final, they are determined to give their best and ensure that the trophy remains home," Simiyu said. In hockey, the boys' title is still up for grabs, with 2023 champions Kakungulu Memorial from Uganda leading in a three-horse race which also has record winners St Anthony's Boys High School Kitale and St Charles Lwanga. The three sides remain unbeaten, though they have dropped points in draws. Going into today's encounters, the three sides will be looking to make the best out of their last round-robin ties and enhance their chances of taking the reins from last year's champions, Musingu High School, who already relinquished their crown after suffering three defeats. The top-of-the-bill clash will pit Kakungulu, who tops the table with 16 points, against third-placed St Charles Lwanga, who are looking to upgrade to gold from last year's silver medal. A victory for St Charles against Kakungulu will also enhance St Anthony's chances of reclaiming the title they last won in 2018. St Anthony's will play fifth-placed Mbarara High from Uganda in their last encounter. National champions Musingu are already out of the medal bracket. In the girls' title hunt, holders JOGA face off with Kakungulu, who are threatening to spoil the Kenyan party. With Kenya's clean sweep at stake, JOGA will have to beat third-placed Kakungulu, who are tied on 12 points with Ng'iya Girls to elbow them off the podium. Even so, Ngi'iya must also secure maximum points from their duel against St Mary's Namagunga from Uganda. Tigoi, who are currently second on the table with 13 points, will take on Sacred Heart Mushanga, while Mwiki will end their campaign against Bweranyangi. In basketball, national champions Laiser Hill Academy, who were the only Kenyan side to reach the semi-finals, lost to Rwanda's ITS Kigali 76-51 in their last four encounter. ITS will tomorrow play defending champions Amus College, who dismissed their compatriots St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde 78-62 in an all-Ugandan semis duel.
