Over 20 teams for Level-three Champions at Peponi

A three-day Level-Three Age Group Swimming Championship has drawn top-tier swimmers from across the country and is set for Peponi School-Nairobi this weekend.

Several swimming clubs have registered for the meet organized by the Nairobi County Aquatics Association (NCAA) at the school's state-of-the-art short-course swimming pool.

The age groups expected to compete in the gala are aged seven and under, eight and nine years, 10 to 11 years, 12 to 13 year-olds, 14 to 15 year-olds, and 16 and over will be in action.

So far, over 20 teams have confirmed their participation in the meet including Genesis Sports Limited team, Supermarlins from Kiambu, Central Bank of Kenya team, Home Aquatics, Amazi Dolphins, and USIU -A Dolphins Swim Club.

Others are the Rapids Swim Club from Eldoret, the Kiambu-based Sailfish swimming team,  the Seahorses from Machakos County, Tipwa Tipwa, and Fithub Aquatics among others.

Participants are expected to have qualifying times achieved before August 1, 2022, with proof of the same required for one to be eligible to compete. 

The registration was closed on October 16.

Among the notable swimmers are Jeff Muturi of Genesis Sports Team and Luvas Juma of Nextgen Swim Club expected to present a stiff challenge to the rest. 

"I'm well prepared for the Peponi meet having been practicing a lot for the same since I expect a stiff challenge from the rest being a level-three championship," Muturi said.

Adding, "Unlike level-two, I must beat the clock with better timings as I also work on the same ahead of Paris Olympic qualifiers slated for early next year."

Muturi has signed up with Genesis Sports Limited as his sponsor for the 2023-2024 season. 

A professional swimmer, Muturi, a fourth-year Civil Engineering student at JKUAT, has been equipped with Yingfa swimwear and apparel.
