Catholic schools in Kitui outshine academies, public ones in results

[File, Standard] Catholic-sponsored schools in Kitui County performed better than private academies and public schools in results released yesterday. St Gabriel Primary school in Mwingi, has emerged the top school for the second year running with a mean score of 397.40 followed by another Catholic school, St Josephine Bhakita in Zombe which had a mean score of 384.69. St Gabriel Primary that had 54 candidates also produced the best candidate in the county; Rebecca Mwalale Benrodger who scored 428 marks out of a possible 500. She was followed by Gilbert Mutemi Philip who scored 419 marks followed closely by Monica Mutanu Musyoki with 418 marks. Of the 54 candidates who sat for KCPE at St Gabriel, 24 scored 400 marks and above while the lowest score was an impressive 366 marks. The Catholic school has been posting impressive KCPE results over the years. The school suffered a tragedy in 2018 when 10 pupils died some three kilometres from Mwingi town while returning from an education trip in Mombasa after their school bus collided head-on with a lorry. St Josephine Bhakita on the other hand saw 13 out of 64 candidates with garner 400 marks and above. Other Catholic schools that performed well include St Michael Primary school that posted a mean score of 364.7 with 15 candidates out of 75 scoring 400 marks and above while Good Shepherd posted a mean score of 370. At Central Primary school in Kitui town, a public school, three candidates scored 400 marks and above with Elijah Nyamai James topping the list with 412 marks followed by Victor Muthui Nginda (407) and Jimmy Shaha with 404 marks. At Unyaa Primary, another public school David Faith Mwende topped with 402 marks. Meanwhile in Machakos and Makueni counties, private schools outshone public institutions in this year's KCPE exams whose results were released yesterday by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. Traditional giants, Machakos Primary and Tala Township Primary, both public schools, trailed private academies, according to the results. In Machakos Primary, five candidates scored over 400 marks, with Tala Township posting similar results where two candidates got the coveted marks. Wambua Myles Kyalo, Joseph Joshua Kavithi and Kyalo Gerald Musembi scored 409, 405 and 405 marks. Their classmates, Ndambuki Renson Mwendwa, and Maureen Mwendwa scored 402 and 400 marks. In Tala Township, Abigael Moraa scored 407 and Alvis Musindi scored 401 marks. Makueni Malivani AIC Boarding Primary, another public school, produced five candidates with over 400 marks: Makori Sidi (416), Klanderman Marc (411), Musyoka Benedict (410), Muindi Faith (409) and Mutie Peace Mutanu (403) marks. However, in the private schools category, The Ultimate Leader Muumandu Hills Academy in Machakos produced 15 candidates who scored over 400 marks, where Ryan James topped with 422 marks. The school had an overall mean grade of 406 marks. The school's headteacher, Jonathan Nguta attributed the impressive performance to discipline and hard work. "Discipline, hard work and trust in God has made us achieve this, and we are proud of nour 2022 class," the head teacher said during an interview. Kyandu Bright School in Kangundo produced five candidates with over 400 marks, where Shannon Nzilani topped the class with 408 marks. Early Bird Primary school in the same county produced eight candidates with over 400 marks where Muia Nicole Mwongeli led the pack with 416 marks. In Makueni, Premise Academy produced the top candidate in the region, Musyimi Albert Muneeni with 425 marks. A similar trend was witnessed at the County School in Makueni where 12 candidates scored over 400 marks. Elsewhere, schools in Kiambu County produced some of the best performers in the KCPE examinations. In the results announced, Joseph Kamau from Ng'enda Primary school in Gatundu South scored 410 marks. He was followed by Joy Kariuki who got 409 marks. A total of eight students scored over 400 marks and above. In Ruiru sub county Depaul Austine Academy Trevor Munuhe scored 420 marks, he tied with Victor Muatha. At St Antony's School in Kiambu sub county the school produced three pupils with over 400 marks. Top of the list was Purity Moraa with 410 marks, followed by Mark Baraka with 405 marks and Brandon Mbugua with 400 marks. Additional reporting by Fidelis Kabunyi
