Wiper set to win Machakos poll

Wiper Democratic Movement is set to win the Machakos sensorial by-election, according to poll results so far released by the Independent  Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The party's candidate, Agnes Kavindu Muthama, has won with huge margins in all eight constituencies whose results are currently being compiled at the county tallying center.

In Machakos Town constituency, Kavindu has so far garnered 16,738 votes while her closest opponent, UDA's Urbanus Ngengele following with 3,266 votes in 199 out of 213 polling stations so far reported.

In Mwala constituency the final tally stands at 12,718 votes for Kavindu against Ngengele's 8,257 which translates to 58 and 38 per cent respectively.

Kavindu also won in Kathiani constituency by garnering 13,266 votes representing 85 per cent of the total votes cast against Ngengele's 1,221 in the final tally.

In Kangundo constituency, Kavindu managed 12,985 votes compared to Ngengele's 1,096 representing 84 and 7 per cent of the total cast votes respectively in the final tally.

Voters in Yatta constituency also preferred Kavindu to Ngengele where the final tallied results stood at 13,510 for the Wiper candidate and 982 for the UDA flag bearer.

The same trend was replicated in Matungulu constituency where Wiper candidate scooped 12,985 votes against 1,827 votes for the UDA party candidate.

In Mavoko, Kavindu got 6,690 while Ngengele managed 1,407 in the final tally.

IEBC is expected to finalize the tallying process in the next few hours and declare the final results.
