The body of a two-year-old boy was found hanging from a rope tied to the eaves of their house in Mbooni.

At first, local chief Richard Ndisya linked the death to suicide but later expressed doubt considering the child's age.

“Upon learning of the incident, we rushed to the scene and retrieved the body. The matter is being investigated by police,” said Mr Ndisya.

The boy's mother, Patricia Wayua, had left home for a meeting at Ititu Primary School when the incident happened.

DISPUTED CLAIMS

A senior police officer who is not authorised to speak to the media disputed claims that the boy committed suicide, hinting that the boy could have become entwined by the rope, used for swinging, and suffocated to death.

“The boy could have been entwined by two swing ropes while trying to swing like his friends,” he said, adding that the boy had been left unattended by his siblings when the accident happened.

He said the matter was being investigated by the Mbooni District Criminal Investigation officer.

The body was taken to the Mbooni Sub-County Hospital mortuary
