Mystery surrounds a Monday night attack on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale in the city centre. Mr Etale narrated how unknown people attacked him with pepper spray along Kimathi Street as he left Ranalo Foods, a popular eatery.

The ODM party official, who was in the company of friends, said he was walking towards Kenyatta Avenue at about 10pm, when some unknown people accosted him. He was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

"It was concentrated pepper spray. Such a painful ordeal. Still asking questions, but it is well. Thank you doctors & nurses at Nairobi Hospital," Mr Etale wrote on Twitter.

He said he was in the company of friends identified as Phelix G-cord, Onyango Kevin and Oliver Mugo before they parted ways and he started walking towards his car.

"I started walking towards CFC Stanbic Bank slowly so I could catch up with Phelix, who had already crossed the road," he said. A saloon car drove by when I was in the middle of the road and I stopped to let it pass. All of a sudden, someone pulled out and sprayed a strong substance in my face and the car sped off towards the Total fuel station on Kimathi Street."
