READY TO REV OFF: JCB Ganatra sponsors Rally Raid competition

The Kenyan Rally Raid Championship will start on March 12, with long-term supporter JCB Ganatra as the main sponsors.

This Dakar-style rally series has a mix of cars, buggies, motorbikes and quads all competing for class and overall honours.

Gray Cullen stormed to the finish in first place last year, driving his custom-built Range Rover buggy and Cullen hopes to retain the pole position.

He will undoubtedly face stiff competition though from both newcomers as well as old timers such as Ian Duncan, who is expected to battle hard driving the Prado Special that he debuted last year.

“With JCB back on board, 2016 looks to be the best year ever,” said Dennis Burnett, the chair of the Kenya Rally Raid Commission.

“Competition between our existing competitors is hotting up with a number of new cars and drivers adding to the mix this year,” he said.

One entrant who is expected to attract a large following is ‘Flash’ Tundo, rumoured to be starting the event in a surprise car, details of which are scarce.
