Eldoret, Kenya - Thousands of people lined along Uganda Road in Eldoret town to witness the arrival of prophet Dr. David Owuor of the Repentance and Holiness Ministry.

At 6.30PM Friday Owuor adorned in a long-brown coat descended from his vehicle and immediately set into prayer for the thousands of people who had been waiting for him since early last week for the three days Repentance and Holiness Ministry's mega prayer meeting.

He further led a procession of a multitude accompanied by the National Youth Service (NYS) band through Oginga Odinga Street towards the Eldoret Sports Club grounds with traffic at the usually calm town coming to a standstill.

There has been booming business in Eldoret since Wednesday with food and accommodation establishments being the greatest beneficiaries of the huge number of gospel ministers and congregations that had assembled for prayer.

Ali Kibwana a manager at Boma Inn, a four star hotel in Eldoret said the visit by Owuor has crowned a good season for hoteliers who have benefited from other recent events like the County Assembly Sports in Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

“Business has improved as we have recorded more bookings than last year accommodating several preachers, most but not all rooms have been booked since the meeting and people are trickling in for meals too,” he said.

A spot check by The Standard established that across the town accommodation facilities have registered more visits since Wednesday last week and with the high demand they have consequently hiked prices of the rooms frequented by average citizens.

“We usually charge Sh1200 per night together with bed and breakfast but we are charging Sh1700 without breakfast yet all rooms are taken here. When we are full here it means there is no space in the city,” said an attendant at one of the lodges in Eldoret Central Business District (CBD).

Other faithful that have travelled from across the country and beyond the borders that could not afford accommodation costs pitched camp at schools and weathered the cold nights waiting for the prophet.

Makeshift eateries were established along the Eldoret-Kapsabet highway where individuals purchased meals and Mary Akinyi who was selling tea, beans and chapatis to hungry congregants said they have had good business and wished the event would take longer.

Security was intensified at the venue of the event and towards the end of the meeting Langas OCPD Esther Muhoro confirmed they had not recorded grave insecurity cases, terming the meeting successful.

Prophet Owuor reiterated his message of repentance and called on Kenyans to detach from sinful ways and enhance God’s love for the nation he says has recently enjoyed much favour from the maker.

“A nation that God loves so much should be steadfast in prayer and repentance lest they offend the maker and get hit hard with God’s wrath,” said Owuor who performed several healing miracles.

Samuel Waweru and his wife Elizabeth Wanjiku from Kakamega testified to the multitude at Eldoret Sports club that they had not been blessed by a child in their 15 years of marriage but through Owuor’s prayers they got a son in April 2014.

Local leaders including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi who declared that he was saved in last year's meeting were present on the final day of the crusade.
