When M-pesa was launched about 7 years ago many thought it was just another hoax. Today it has not only become a way of life but a part and parcel of life. It has as well enabled the Unbanked and unreached to accept mobile money in a way that is socially acceptable and bring the sense of belonging. Today most Samburu morans have registered for the Lipa Na M-pesa service for them to accept payment from buyers as far as upcountry before they exchange goods.
M-pesa is leading the way in changing culture as well. Most of the bridal price nowadays are made via M-pesa and little exchange of heards of cattles done. This has led to the mushrooming of M-pesa agent in the interior of Samburu village where insecurity and cattle raid was the order of the day.
