President Uhuru Kenyatta to launch integrated registration system

President Uhuru Kenyatta will launch the country's first one stop shop for identification documents that will detail all personal information and biometric for both locals and foreigners.
The president will officiate over the event at the KICC Wednesday morning for the Integrated Population Registration System (IPRS) that seeks to have a centralised comprehensive database of all citizens and foreigners.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Major General (rtd) Joseph Nkaissery on Tuesday said the main objective of the modern system is to enrich national security and harmonise identification documents.
"The main aim of IPRS is to improve security through universal single registration system and not various systems operating in isolation. This will establish secure central database for all Kenyans and foreigners and will also contain individual information and biometric details." Nkaissery said at a Nairobi hotel during a media breakfast briefing.
PS Monicah Juma said apart from harmonisation of the national data base of persons, the system will go along away in addressing national security at a time when the country is facing threats from international crimes such as terrorism and money laundering.
"We are now confident that we can launch IPRS in order to streamline the various databases for ease of identification of person's real time. Absence of such a system can cause serious security breaches." Juma added.
The department of Immigration and Registrar of Persons headed by Major (rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa. Completed initial phase of creation of IPRS and it is already being used in financial institutions, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Higher Education and Loans Board (HELB).
This integration system will interlink the database of the Ministry of Immigration and Registrar of persons with those of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Teachers' Service Commission (TSC), the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), the Public Service Commission (PSC), the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), as well as telecommunication companies and government agencies.
One of the main advantages of the IRS is its link with the electronic border management system and it also guarantees complete safety for the citizens, but also gives criminals with a lot to worry about, according to the state officials.
