MCAs reject House Business Committee list

Kenya: Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) declined to approve membership of the House Business Committee when the House resumed yesterday.

The MCAs differed on the composition and resolved to adjourn proceedings on the issue to pave way for more consultations. The committee runs daily affairs of the Assembly including constituting various committees.

A group opposed to the list claimed it lacked regional and gender equality. “This list should be discussed further. Key constituencies lack representation,” said Ndundori Ward MCA Steve Kihara.

However, Kabazi Ward Representative Mwangi Waithaka said the list complies with the house Standing Orders and accused those opposed to it of introducing sideshows.
