Samsung's new device powered by Tizen OS

Samsung smartphones and tablets have been using Google’s Android Operating System but the Korean manufacturer recently launched a new smartphone that will run on Tizen operating system, a Linux-based platform. Subsequent reviews, however, disparaged the new handset, dubbed Samsung Z1, primarily due to its poor specs such as the low-resolution cameras and dearth of software applications. The new Tizen operating system, the only reason the device has received much attention, aims to compete with the likes of Firefox OS, Jolla Sailfish, Ubuntu Touch and even Android. Tizen is an open source OS, just like Android, and uses HTML5 web language for its app development, making it easier and cheaper for content creators to develop apps for the platform. Hardware manufacturers can also easily customise the UI to make it as unique as they please.
