Kirinyaga, Kenya: A family in Kirinyaga County is in shock after a local vigilante group disrupted a burial ceremony of their kin and torched his body.

Phillip Mwangi was to be buried at his home when the vigilante group hijacked the hearse carrying the body, doused it in petrol and set it ablaze.

The vigilantes, who have been fighting the Mungiki sect for five years allegedly torched Mwangi’s remains because he was a member of the outlawed sect.

Mwangi had been living in Karatina since 2009 after the vigilantes ejected him and other Mungiki members.
