Sam Shollei elected Media Owners Association chairman

Nairobi, Kenya: Standard Group CEO Sam Shollei is the new chairman of the Media Owners Association (MOA), an industry grouping that brings together media owners and senior industry executives.

Taking over the mantle from Radio Africa Group Chairman Mr Kiprono Kittony, Mr Shollei said he was ready and willing to take up the challenge.

He thanked the outgoing chairman for work well done, noting that the industry will continue to effectively play its watchdog role in society.

Mr Granton Samboja of Mediamax becomes vice-chairman, while Wachira Waruru of Royal Media Services (RMS) is the new treasurer, in elections held at the MOA Annual General Meeting on Tuesday in Nairobi.

Mr Waruru will be assisted by Mr Julius Lamaon of Kass Media, while Mr Cyrus Kamau of Capital Group becomes organising secretary.

Mr Tom Mshindi of Nation Media Group (NMG) and Mr Hannington Gaya become deputy secretary and secretary, respectively.

Mr Kittony, the outgoing chairman, affirmed that the media will continue to play its important role of being the conscience of the society and creating public awareness.

Joining Mr Kittony in the executive committee are Joshua Chepkwony (Kass Media), Linus Gitahi (NMG), SK Macharia (RMS), Patrick Quarcoo (Radio Africa) and Leo Slingerland (Family Media).
