Kisumu, Kenya: A man has been arrested in Awasi, Kisumu County with drugs worth Sh2 million. The drugs are alleged to have been stolen from a government hospital.

The man who had disguised himself as a drug supplier was Wednesday cornered by police in Awasi with four cartons of Falcidin drugs containing 97, 500 tablets.

The boxes which were marked ‘Bondo District Hospital’ were found at a room within Awasi Shopping Centre ready for sale.

Kisumu County Police Commandant David Ng’etich said police who had been trailing the man after a tip from intelligence service, apprehended the man at the scene.

“We are yet to determine the source of the drugs but we suspect they were obtained illegally,” said Ng’etich.

He said the man could not explain the source of the drugs and his intention of holding the drugs at Awasi.

He, however, said the man will be arraigned in court to face numerous charges related to theft

“He had no documents which authorized him to handle the drugs so we held him and we will take him to court to determine the truth behind the drugs,” said Ng’etich.
