Kenya: The government has dismissed messages being circulated on social media warning of an impending terror attack by Al shabaab saying it will not tolerate those misusing the platforms to cause panic.

The government urged Kenyans to disregard the rumours which also allege ‘cancellation of flights’ by United Kingdom.

“The Government wishes to clarify that it has no information about any flights having been cancelled. This is therefore to inform Kenyans tha5 these alarming messages are false and intended to cause fear and despondency”, read part of the statement sent to newsrooms by the Interior Ministry.

The government, however, added that terror threats are a reality in the country, as they are in all over the world and urged Kenyans to always be alert and share whatever information they have on security matters with the security agencies.

“The country’s Security Agencies are constantly on high alert to ensure that Shopping Malls and other vital Installations are always well guarded”, the State assured.

The State further added that causing fear and despondency is one of the tactics commonly used by terror groups to terrify and demoralise innocent citizens.

“We should never give terrorists the satisfaction of controlling our lives”.
