Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader passes on in Mumbai after illness

Dr Syedna Mohamed Burhanuddin Saheb, leader of the international Dawoodi Bohra Community, succumbed to illness yesterday. He passed on at his residence in Mumbai while undergoing treatment. Having served as the Dai-Yal-Mutlaq for 50 years, Saheb died at the age of 102.

 In respect to this, the Bohra community has issued ten days mourning period. After prayers and holly cleansing, his body was carried from his Holinesses’ bungalow to Bindi Bazaar. He was buried next to his late father’s grave. He had succeeded his father, Syedna Taher Saifuddin.

There was heavy traffic jam as people gathered to accompany the carriage for the funeral.  The Dawoodi Bohra community is a sect of Shia Muslims that has expanded globally and has earned a status among the three renowned sects of Shia Muslims in Kenya as well.

Being the 52nd Imam of the sect, Raziya Zavery- a believer, explains that he guided the entire ummah of the community to the path of righteousness.

“He showed us the right path, and was always there not only in spiritual matters but also in other aspects of life,” explained Zavery.
