Palaver

Are Lands assistant minister Bifwoli Wakoli and former Trade and Industry Minister Mukhisa Kituyi for real? How can they urge Kenyans to give embattled Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetang’ula time to read a report implicating him in corruption?

Thought it would be wiser strategy to let their main rival for the State House race stew. Then Bifwoli lets the cat out of the bag by saying four MPs from Western who have declared their interest in the presidency are holding secret talks to have one of them picked for the top seat. Now how secret can that be?

The US military reports that nearly 77,000 Iraqis were killed between 2004 to mid-2008, the five years their security forces were in Iraq. Of course Iraqi government figures place the death tally much higher. In comparison, only 3,952 American and other allied international troops died over the same period. So perhaps Barack Obama was right to pull the plug on this senseless war started by two Bushes and a Blair over some mumbo-jumbo about WMDs.

And from our files...A story is told of a February 2001 political rally planned by the Muungano wa Mageuzi movement. Police accosted the then Opposition MPs heading to Kisumu town to address wananchi. Then the fun started. Mageuzi architect MP James Orengo & Co abandoned their cars and were whisked away by his aides. Runyenjes MP Njeru Kathangu’s vehicle came under a barrage of stones near Awasi township en route to Kisumu. And the gem, Nominated MP Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o escaped arrest by jumping into a matatu, Makmende-style and speeding from the clutches of police. Wow! Do they recall such escapades?

And finally...

What is brewing in Francis Atwoli’s tea cup even as the sufuria boils over in the tea plucking districts? Is there any credibility to reports that some as-yet-unidentified fellows are plotting the succession of the tough-talking Cotu boss? Speak out Comrade Francis.
