Palaver

Poor Wakoli Bifwoli, he of the Luhya unity theme that is never too far away from the lips of every Luhya politician. While counting his chickens and perhaps calculating his chances at making a stab for State House 2012, he failed to look over his shoulder.

At the podium was one Raila Odinga, who claims he is 13th in line from the royal lineage of Nabongo Mumia, and lays claim to that 2012 race as one of the Mluhya contenders.

But one University of Nairobi don tells Palaver, Raila also traces his roots to the first Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom. Should Uganda President Museveni and King Ronald Mutebi have reason to worry?

An Austrian zoo has sacked a 59-year-old long-serving employee for growing 30 plants of weed (bhang) inside a rhinoceros enclosure. The ‘enterprising’ employee maintained the small plantation inside the rhinoceros’ cage. Who would have thought of going into the cage to find out what exotic plant the caretaker so lovingly tended? Palver gives the man an ‘A’ for effort.

Politics is a truly confounding game. They say there are no permanent enemies or permanent friends, just permanent interests. A story is told of former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara allegedly making up with ODM leader Raila Odinga at the funeral of Ibrahim Ochoi. Of course, Magara went on to deny this.

The very next day, Raila was in the city campaigning for former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and Magara appeared, complete with green cap emblazoned with the word ‘Wathika’, Ndolo’s rival in today’s by-election. In fact, Magara appeared so incensed and posed: "He (Raila) betrayed me at my time of need and I will be out of my mind to think of kneeling before him for accommodation in his dying party." Ouch! That must have hurt.

And finally...

An avid reader sends this observation:

A woman once said:

A man is like a deck of playing card...You need

A Heart to love him

A Diamond to marry him

A Club to beat him and

A Spade to bury him with.
