Former Deputy Head Teacher of Muungano Primary School in Katendewa village, Bamba Location, Ganze Sub County was Thursday charged in court for sexually assaulting his pupils.

Joseph Muturi pleaded not guilty in court before Kilifi Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku and was given a bond of Sh500, 000 with one surety of the same amount.

It is alleged that the former Deputy Head Teacher, who was transferred to Migodomani Primary School immediately after the allegations were brought to the limelight, was the school’s games master and first aider.

According to court documents, Muturi sexually assaulted 6 girls who were part of a team that was to attend County Sports competition at Kijiwetanga primary school in Malindi Sub County between February 8 and 15 this year.

The girls were aged between 12 years to 17 years.

The Court heard that Muturi seduced the girls and sexually abused them.

This happened when he ordered all participants attending the event to spend their night at Muungano primary school ahead of their morning journey.

According to sources who sort anonymity because of security reasons, the teacher told the girls that they needed some bodyworks to maintain their bodies since the competition was tough.

“There were some boys among the team and that night he gave them a separate room where they slept. At night, he called the girls one by one and started applying liniment on their thighs but it was not only that, he extended his fingers to their private parts,” said the source.

Some of the girls who rejected his advances were kicked out of the tour and this raised eyebrows among parents.

“The girls were forced to go back home and their parents questioned why they were told to spend the night at school if they were not going for the competition. They said how the games teacher had demanded sex from them. The parents got mad at the teacher and raised the matter with the school management,” added the source.

The case will be mentioned on April 23.

The Standard established that the teacher is at Bofa GK Prison.

Before the Senior Principal Magistrate Kituku issued his bond ruling, the accused lawyer Robert Nyachiro prayed for favourable bond terms.
