Coast Counties to invest more in agribusiness under Jumuiya Ya Kaunti Za Pwani

Jumuiya ya Kaunti Za Pwani that brings together the six coastal counties will focus on agribusiness to enhance food security and empower residents economically.

Agribusiness is an industry engaged in the operations of a farm that include manufacture and distribution of farm equipment and supplies. It also has everything to do with processing, storage and distribution of farm produce.

JKP Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Nzai said they were also keen on wealth creation, ensuring sustainable use of land and proper management of minerals in the region.

He said they were determined to ensure residents fully benefited from minerals, tourism, fishing and agriculture, which are yet to be exploited fully.

"JKP will dedicate resources to ensure food security and proper nutrition," Nzai said yesterday.

He said the resolution was arrived at by governors, Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta), Salim Mvurya (Kwale), Dhadho Godhana (Tana River) and Fahim Twaha (Lamu) after the agribusiness and blue economy investment conference in Mombasa two weeks ago.

Nzai made the remarks in Voi during the official closing of the two-day ASK Show by Mr Samboja.

The theme of this year’s agricultural show, sponsored by the county government, Food and Agriculture Organisation, among other agencies was "Promoting technology in agri-business and trade".
