Profesor Ali Mazrui laid to rest in Mombasa

MOMBASA COUNTY: Renowned Kenyan scholar Prof Ali Mazrui was Sunday laid to rest in Mombasa. Thousands of mourners converged in to witness the final journey of the late Mazrui who died in the United States on October 12.

Mazrui’s body arrived at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa shortly after 2am Sunday morning. 

The body was later taken to the Mbaruk Mosque for special prayers.

Among those who attended the burial were Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale.

Prof Mazrui passed away in New York at the age of 81 where he was working as a professor at the Binghamton University.
