MOMBASA, KENYA: A Kenyan woman has been arrested with 4 kilograms of heroin at Moi International Airport in Mombasa as she prepared to board a flight to Zanzibar.

According to the OCPD in charge of the airport Charles Okweya, the drug is valued at Sh11 million and was stashed in false bottoms of two suitcases.

He said the suitcases passed undetected by airport scanners but was discovered by sniffer dogs

Okweya told the Standard that the woman was arrested Monday morning at 6.30am as she waited to board a 7.00 am flight to Zanzibar.

The OCPD claimed detectives have been trailing the suspect for two weeks and had received intelligence that she had entered the airport this morning after being dropped by taxi.

Police say the suspect is a regular to Europe and South Africa. She visited South Africa in April and she described herself as a businesswoman engaged in the export of sculptures.

She denied knowledge of the drugs and that she does not know how the same ended in her luggage.
