Perennial top performers in Mt Kenya region led in producing top achievers in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) whose results were announced yesterday.

The three top traditional national schools in the region – all in Kiambu County – were in the top category of producing straight As with Alliance High, Mang'u High and Mary Hill Girls appearing in this record of distinction.

Njuguna Edwin Mwangi managed an A plain of 81 at Alliance High School same as Njuguna Elvis Njoroge at Mangu High School.

Top performers also included Maina Faith Njoki of St Mary Igoji Girls in Meru County with straight A of 81 points. She also featured at number six nationally and was among the youngest candidates at under 16 years.

Results also showed that her schoolmate, Stella Njambi Ndungi, topped at the national school level with an A of 83 points.

At Nkubu High School, which has shown a resurgent performance in the last two years, Muthomi Ken Mike managed an A plain of 82 points.

The school also reported that 15 of its students had achieved A- and 55 B+, a warning that it was slowly regaining its lost glory.

At Moi High School - Mbiruri in Embu County, two A plains were recorded by Mukedi Eugine Owino and Mutinda Jeremiah Mutunga both tying at 81 points.

Other top performers included Wamai Serah Nyaguthii of Mugoiri Girls in Murang’a County with 82 points, while at Kahuhia Girls, an extra county school, also in Murang’a County, two students - Kuria Mercy Wanjiku and Kahuthu Rosemary Muthoni - had an A of 82 points and Mwangi Mercy Wanjiku had an A of 81 points.

Nyokabi Collins Njunia of Njiiri High School also in Murang’a had an A plain of 82 points tying with schoolmate Kamau Kinuthia.

Kiaguthu Boys, a county school in Murang’a, produced impressive grades and its top students, Kariuki Antony Kinyanjui, had an A plain of 82 points.

Kagumo High School, one of the two national schools in Nyeri, also reported some impressive grades. Its two top students were Kahome Gichuki at A of 82 points and Roy Mutahi Ngatia with an A of 81 points. Nyeri High School top student Wahome Haron Mathenge managed an A plain of 81 points.

Other leading schools in the region include  Murang’a High School, Chogoria Girls, Ontulili Boys, Ikuu Boys, Kyeni Girls, Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls and Meru School, all reported to have a number of students with A- but none as of yesterday with A plain.

But some students in the region made good performances with Collins Mwangi [pictured] of Nanyuki High School scoring a mean grade B+ despite his lung failure condition.

Mwangi featured among the top 10 disabled students and his mother, Christine Edna Kiama, said her son had difficult time since joining form one in 2015 due to breathing problem.
