County Assembly rejects Cabinet

Nyandarua, Kenya: Nyandarua County Governor Daniel Waithaka will now be forced to go back to the drawing board after the County Assembly rejected nominees to the county executive committee.

The County Assembly members said the list of nominees lacked regional balance and marginalised people were left out.

The final report, which was presented to the House by Leader of Majority Mwangi Gichuki was rejected by the County Assembly sitting in Ol Kalou. Thirteen members voted against while 12 backed the team. One member did not vote.

They argued that Milangine, Ol Jororok and Kipipiri constituencies were not well represented since they had only one slot each.

Kipipiri ward representative Michael Kirumba had argued that this was unfair as Ndaragwa and Kinangop had three slots each.

“This is contrary to the County Government Act on regional balancing, which calls for all areas to be well represented. We want to call on the governor to consider this in his future appointments,” he said.

Ndaragwa Central Ward representative Mwangi Kagwe had sought the approval of the report arguing that Ndaragwa people had not been considered in other appointments.

“We are the people who have not been well represented in all other positions be it electoral or nominated. We want leadership to be felt on the ground and that is why we supported the report,” he said.

It was after several hours of argument that Speaker Ndegwa Wahome called for a vote.

The report had recommended that the name of Bishop Joseph Methu should not be approved.

Methu allegedly failed to present authenticated education documents.

The report indicated that he did not prove to the appointment committee that he was a degree holder.

Though in his CV he holds a masters in Theology from South California Bible College, USA, it was not recognised in that country.

Commission for Higher Education said the university also was not recognised in Kenya. All the other nine nominees had been approved by the appointment committee.

Ms Judy Nyambura Muhia had been nominated to the ministry of Industrialisation, Cooperative Development, Tourism and Wildlife.

Mrs Agatha Thuo had been nominated to the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries docket.
