Girl, 3, rescued from kidnappers

Police in Nyahururu have rescued a girl who was abducted a week ago.

The monday night incident saw the suspected kidnappers – two men, and a woman – arrested.

The minor, Vanessa Njeri, three, had been kidnapped from her home at the posh Muthaiga estate in Nyahururu town and had been missing since then.

Njeri was in the company of a househelp when she was kidnapped by a man and a female accomplice who were armed with an AK 47 rifle.

Yesterday, an operation led by Nyandarua OCPD Benjamin Onsongo saw the arrest of three suspected kidnappers at Gatumbiro village in Nyandarua West District.

He said police traced the phone calls that led them to the hideout in the interior parts of Gatumbiro.

Mr Onsongo said they have since arrested the three suspects, among them two women and a man. Another suspect escaped during the raid and is being sought by the police.

“We have been following up the matter since she was abducted and it was only yesterday we managed to arrest them. We have been tracking their phone calls that led us to their hideout,” he noted.

It was only three days ago that the suspected kidnappers demanded a ransom of Sh20 million from the girl’s parents, who are prominent business people within Nyahururu town.

The police chief said police had advised the parents not to give out the ransom as they were following a good track that would lead to their arrest.

“We have been following up the matter with a mobile service provider and that was why we advised the parents not to send them any money,” he said.

He said at the home, they found several rolls of bhang and an assortment of weapons.

Onsongo was quick to note that the minor was unharmed and was of sound mind despite being in the hands of the kidnappers for one week.

The suspects are being held at Nyahururu police station before being arraigned in court.
