Hospital releases body for burial

The Karen Hospital has told the parents of a boy who died of post surgery complications to collect his body for burial.

The Hospital Matron Viola Karanja, who spoke on phone, said the hospital, which is owed close to Sh4 million, is not withholding the body of Nevil Okal.

Nevil: He died after undergoing operation.
The parents of ten-year-old Okal, whose story was highlighted in The Standard on Monday, had complained they were not allowed to bury their son until they cleared the fee. The body is being preserved at Montezuma Funeral Home.

"We are not barring them from picking the body, let them go to Montezuma and pick it," said the matron.

The boy’s father, Mr Ezekiel Okal Obwaya, said on Monday he would go to Montezuma on Tuesday morning to pick the body.

The parents had earlier said a surety was demanded before they could get the body, but the matron said issues of the bill were not conditional to picking the body.
