Police in Kakamega North are investigating the death of a 14-year-old girl said to have committed suicide at their Lusumu village home.

The Standard Seven pupil is said to have been unhappy after her sister reportedly took away her dress.

The minor is said to have reported her sister's actions before hanging herself in the sitting-room using a piece of cloth.

Kakamega North sub-county police commander Paul Mwenda told The Standard that they recovered a suicide note believed to have been authored by the minor.

In the note, the girl stated why she decided to take her life, including accusing her mother of bias.

“We received the disturbing information from Mukhonje assistant chief on Thursday 6 that a girl had killed herself inside her parents' sitting-room using a piece of cloth,” said Mr Mwenda.
