Ruto speaks after changes in House Leadership

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday opined on the latest changes in the House Parliamentary Committees urging legislators to work together.

Through a tweet, the DP called for unity, reminding the MPs affected that they are working for God, not man.

“With the changes in Parliamentary leadership including committee membership & leadership now concluded, I urge all MPs NOT to be divided but work TOGETHER in serving the PEOPLE.

“Col.3:23, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for God,not human masters,” he tweeted.

More than 15 MPs allied to DP Ruto were moved from key House Committees and they were replaced by pro-BBI legislators who are allied to Kieleweke.

One of those who was moved to a less lucrative committee was Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa who previously headed the Budget and Appropriations Committee but will now serve in the Member Services Committee.

Ichung’wa welcomed the idea of serving in his new role saying he will ensure all the lawmakers are comfortable during sittings especially during this Covid-19 period.

“…I thank the Majority Leader and Majority Whip for the opportunity to serve in the Member Services Committee, which was previously known as the Catering Committee… these services includes virtual sittings in this age of COVID-19 to help elderly members like baba of Parliament Jimmy Nuru Angwenyi and Maina Kamanda, to continue serving their constituents.

“This is also the committee that oversights the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC),” said Ichung’wa.

In the new arrangement, ODM will chair the Education and Finance and Planning committees.

The party will also have vice chairpersons in the Legal Affairs and Constitution Implementation Oversight committees.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga will chair the Finance and Planning Committee while her Busia counterpart Florence will head the Education Committee.
