Politicians encourage Debarl after he was sacked by NMG

Just hours after journalist Debarl Inea was shown the door by Nation Media Group, a number of politicians took to social media to encourage him.

Debarl was unlucky to be among a number of employees who were laid off by the media house as it restructures and scales down its operations.

"It was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.

“Thank you NMG for the opportunity. Work continues apace,” wrote Debarl.

Among the first politicians to give a word of encouragement was Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who praised the journalist for his professionalism.

“Your morning show was highly rated. Stay strong you will triumph,” tweeted the senator.

His sentiments were echoed by Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka and Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi who were regular guests on his show.

This comes just two days after Nation Media Group announced that COVID-19 had severely impacted its business.

Through a letter seen by Ureport, CEO Stephen Gitagama also said salary reduction will be extended to December as the current situation had necessitated a new approach.

He also stated that some jobs will be lost but the exercise would be conducted with respect to affected colleagues.

“It is an extremely difficult decision in view of the prevailing circumstances and we understand the impact this will have on those affected and their families.

“The exercise will be carried out with utmost respect to affected colleagues and in adherence to the Kenyan labour laws,” read the letter in part.
