US Ambassador
to Kenya Kyle McCarter, put on the spot Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony over
the COVID-19 testing equipment he unveiled on Friday, April 24.
Through his
Twitter handle, Governor Chepkwony announced the unveiling of mass testing for
COVID-19 in collaboration with Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).
“I am proud to unveil mass COVID-19 testing at the
KEMRI/Walter Reed Laboratory in Kericho today. We are proud of our
collaboration with KEMRI which means that we can now conduct up to 2000 COVID19
tests per day,” said the governor.
As Kenyans congratulated the Kericho governor for a work
well done on the comments section, Ambassador Kyle responded reminding him that the equipment was donated
by the US government.
The
Ambassador even posted photos of the unveiling of COVID-19 equipment that took
place in January, 30, 2020.
“You mean this
equipment bought by the USA unveiled Jan30, 2020,” tweeted the Ambassador.
The Ambassador’s tweet
put Governor Chepkwony
on the spot, where Kenyans on Twitter called him out and asked him to respond
and clarify his statement.
The following
day, the legislator clarified his statement and acknowledged the role played by
the US government in launching the equipment.
“Yes, indeed Amb McCarter. I acknowledge and appreciate the
huge role that the United States has played in this process as I mentioned in
my statement attached. What we launched yesterday was the deployment of this
equipment towards mass testing for COVID-19, “responded the governor.
A section of Kenyans on twitter asked the rest of the
politicians to give the right information while informing the public.
