Mandera County using Form Four leavers to teach after TSC withdrew teachers

The county government of Mandera has now resolved into the absorption of Form Four leavers as teachers. This is after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) withdrew over 1,000 teachers from the region, owing to insecurity.

As reported by the Mandera County Education Board, over 1,000 teachers have left since January, according to orders by their employer TSC. 

"We had 714 non-local teachers in primary school and other 295 in secondary schools, but they have all left," the County Education Board chair Issak Ngiro.

TSC has been blasted over the decision to recall teachers from the region, owing to insecurity situations.

The issue of the county having to consider retired teachers, form four leavers, as well as interns for teaching, has raised a lot of queries.

"The situation is questionable, and getting better results in national examinations is becoming a dream," noted Siad Nur, one of the parents.

Mandera County KNUT Secretary Mohamed Kullow pleaded with leaders to recruit qualified teachers through the use of the Constituency Development Fund.

"As a mitigation measure, I appeal to all elected leaders to use emergency funds under the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to employ at least 100 qualified teachers in every sub-county," stated Mandera County KNUT Secretary.
