Immigration official demands Sh100,000 to issue new passport

A senior immigration official is the subject of discussion among his colleagues over his unorthodox means of getting money.

The officer who belongs to one of the teams that that is in charge of scrutinizing potential applicants for passports has devised new scheme of making quick bucks.

The Grapevine has been told that the man and his cronies have now introduced a parallel system of vetting those who require the vital document.

Those who have undergone the surreptitious process which is conducted at the precincts of mosque that is within the CBD say the official demands up-to Sh100,000 in order for one to be given the travel document, the cash is said to be divided among the members of the team.
