Why Migori senatorial candidate Oketch has conceded defeat

Senatorial candidate in the just concluded Migori by-election Eddy Gicheru Oketch “conceded defeat for the sake of peace and harmony among the county’s electorates.”

During an interview with the Standard Digital Videos, Oketch insisted that the by-election, held after the seat fell vacant following the death of the then Senator Ben Oluoch, was not free and fair.

“Peace and unity is a recipe for development in any sound economy. When I was vying, my message was peace and unity. When I looked at the situation, I saw no need to polarise Ayacko and my supporters,” said Oketch.

According to the Yale University graduate, it was unfair for the whole ODM brigade to physically and ideologically campaign for his opponent Ochillo Ayacko, including opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Ostensibly, Oketch claims that on the Election Day over 70 ODM MCAs and MPs were deployed in all polling stations to spread negative propaganda against him.

“You can’t bring a battalion of people, to campaign against a young person. There was no need for over 70 people, MCAs, MPs going through polling stations to polling stations bribing voters," added Oketch.
