Kesses MP Race hots up as Kosgey, Mishra open their wallets

The race for Kesses parliamentary seat in Uasin Gishu County is getting hotter day by day as the aspirants hit the ground running in a vote-hunt ahead of the August 8 polls.

Among the top contenders for the seat currently held by MP James Bett include; Nairobi-based lawyer Alan Kosgey, Mediheal Group of Hospitals Director Dr. Swarrup Mishra, Former Eldoret South MP David Koros and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer.

Interestingly all aspirants will be vying for the seat on the Jubilee Party ticket and have to face-off and wrestle for the coveted party ticket.

Nevertheless, the race has currently boiled down to a battle of Titans between Allan Kosgey, the son of Former Cabinet Minister Henry Kosgey and Dr. Mishra as the duo dole out cash on elaborate political campaigns as they fight for control of the constituency which is the county’s political heartbeat.

The duo being the wealthiest politicians in the race, have already locked horns as the clock ticks towards most competitive parliamentary contest in the region.

 They are equally moneyed opponents and have blown dust on other contenders who are not well endowed financially.

Since Kosgey kicked-off his campaigns, he has focused on assisting the needy especially, bright students who lack school fees and other essentials and has a strong online presence thankfully to his digital team.

He has also announced that he will be sponsoring 60 students yearly from his own pocket if he elected area MP.
The junior Kosgey's soft-spoken demeanor might also come as a killer-shot to Mishra who has a tendency of flaunting his wealth.

Dr. Mishra has been dishing out foodstuffs and other items like blankets to residents in his campaign tail in a bid to woo the older generation to support his political bid.

 However, he has a very limited online presence and is likely to lose a huge voting block of young people.

The money factor has pushed the incumbent, James Bett, out of the political equation. Bett also suffers from the incumbency curse and has helped the top contenders to gain from it.

The race can be considered a veiled contest between wallets with the exception of, Former MP Koros, who despite not spending huge still commands a big following among voters.
