Turkana County, which was once the face of hunger in Kenya, does not feature in this year's list of starving counties.

The county government has been giving out relief food in phases - targeting households that face possible starvation as well as improving the security situation along the borders. This has enabled pastoralists access water and pasture.

Other arid and semi-arid counties should follow suit and work hard in curbing hunger, by allocating funds for emergency intervention in times of prolonged drought.
