Real reason why Uhuru skipped Devolution Conference

The Governors’ third conference was held in Meru County last week to celebrate three years of devolution.

The county bosses used this forum to market themselves in regard of what they have achieved and accomplished.

It is clear that some counties have made great strides towards bringing development, while some, however appear to be still groping in the dark and the list of what they termed as success devolution stories left more to be desired.

It was a clear case of deceit as some governors listed what is in the public domain being national projects or which existed long before the birth of devolution in 2013, as their projects. This is what must have informed President Uhuru Kenyatta to skip the scheduled opening of the conference and instead sent a terse statement warning the governors that his government will jail corrupt county bosses.

The President, however, should not stop at issuing warnings. He should be ruthless in the fight and auction property of anyone found guilty, and fund projects that really benefit Kenyans.

This can only be achieved if the Judiciary joins hands with the Executive in reigning on the excesses of the governors.
