Schools: St Mary's and Koyonzo shine on day one of Yala Open Tournament

The tournament, a key preparation ground for schools, witnessed thrilling action across various disciplines, with Yala impressing in football and Koyonzo ruling the rugby field. Yala crushed Nyamninia 5-0 in one match, while their Pool A team managed a solid 4-0 win over Nyamninia and a 1-0 victory against Mwihila. Meanwhile, Karabok stunned Green Stars 4-2 in a Pool D match, with other teams such as Katolo securing vital wins to advance their chances. St Mary's Yala also impressed, edging out Chavakali 14-12 in a hard-fought opener. Chavakali bounced back to crush Chianda 30-0, while Vihiga cruised to a 38-0 victory over St Mary's Yala B. [Washington Onyango,Standard] In basketball 5x5, St Mary's Yala (Black Saints) maintained their supremacy, defeating Chavakali 50-9 and outlasting YBA Club 48-40 in a tightly contested game. Their consistent performances highlighted their strength on both ends of the court. Handball action saw Yala deliver commanding victories, defeating Mwihila Boys 26-6 and Vihiga Boys 22-10.
