An angry woman recently caused a stir in Ngong town when she attacked her husband and his alleged mistress.

The morning incident attracted a horde of neighbours, some of whom were preparing to report to their places of work.

According to eyewitnesses, drama unfolded when the woman, identified as Joyce, arrived early in the morning from Kitale. Prior to the incident, Joyce was a loyal and loving housewife, taking care of the children while her husband worked with a construction company based in Ngong town. He would diligently send her Sh5, 000 every month for the family’s upkeep.

This arrangement went on well for close to two years with the husband visiting his family in Kitale once every three months.

Then the visits suddenly stopped. Joyce at first thought that the change was due to pressure of work place an0d saw no cause for alarm.

College fees

But that was soon to change after the husband started sending her half the usual amount claiming that he had erred at his place of work prompting his employer to deduct Sh2, 000 monthly from his pay. He declined to explain the nature of the error.

Suspecting foul play, Joyce contacted her brother, David, who also works a short distance away from her husband’s place of work.

She asked him to spy on her husband whom she suspected was having an affair.

A fortnight later David gave her feedback. As she had suspected, her husband was living with a mistress in Ngong town. Even more shocking, he was also paying college fees for his lover’s daughter.

Call of distress

Like one possessed, she strapped their three-year-old son on her back and rushed to the bus station in Kitale town. She boarded a bus scheduled to arrive in Nairobi in the wee hours of the morning.

In Nairobi, she boarded a matatu to Ngong town, and 6am found her outside her husband’s two-bedroom house.

When she knocked on the door it was opened by a middle-aged woman in a nightgown.

"How may I help you?" she asked angrily.

"I want to speak to my husband," Joyce replied in an equally angry tone while forcing her way into the house.

She headed straight for the bedroom, ignoring the other woman’s warnings and found her husband asleep.

"What is this, Robert? she shouted as she yanked away the blankets covering him.

Shaken and in disbelief, the husband jumped out of the bed and stared at Joyce, speechless. His lover, who had joined them, tried to protest at the intrusion but Joyce grabbed her by the neck and started strangling her.

The woman managed to loosen herself from the grip and let out a call of distress before running towards her lover.

wJoyce followed her at full flight, the child on her back almost falling off, and slapping and pulling her hair.

Traditional wedding

"We have been starving at home while you and this prostitute enjoy yourselves," she yelled, shifting her attention to the husband who was struggling to restrain her.

The two lovers were saved by neighbours. Joyce told them her story and they sympathised with her.

Her husband’s lover was however quick to point out that the two were engaged and that they were planning a traditional wedding in a month’s time.

The man being fought over refused to confirm or deny her claims.

It was agreed by the neighbours that Joyce be given fare back to Kitale, where she would consult her kin on her next course of action.
